Tool Safety - October 2026 - Week 41
This week we are talking about tool safety, specifically the three situations where tool-related injuries happen most often: using a tool that is not the right fit for the job, using a tool that has not been inspected or maintained, and using a tool in a way it was not designed to be used. These situations are not unique to any one team member or experience level. They come up because of time pressure, because the right tool is not immediately available, or because a technique that works most of the time eventually meets the situation where it does not.
Hand and power tool injuries are among the most common in manufacturing and industrial environments. Most of them are preventable not with more rules but with better information: knowing what the tool is designed to do, knowing how to inspect it before use, and knowing when to stop and get the right one rather than make do with what is at hand.
